Civil society organisations representing ethnic minorities can now apply for discretionary government grants to develop their work to combat racism in 2025–2026. The Prime Minister’s Office opened the call for applications on 12 May.

The grants will enable organisations to develop new ways of working and strengthen their core activities and are mainly intended for organisations focusing on combating racism.

The grants are available to registered associations, registered foundations and other non-profit organisations. The total amount of funding available is EUR 240,000.

Priority areas of the call:

  1. Supporting communities affected by racism
  2. Strengthening advocacy work aiming to combat racism
  3. Developing new operating models for combating racism

The grants will be awarded in full, meaning no self-financing share is required. The funding decisions are expected to be made by the end of August 2025. The funded projects must be implemented by the end of the year 2026.

Applications for the discretionary government grants must be submitted by 30 June 2025 at 16.15 at the latest. Applications must be submitted using the designated application form.

The call for applications, the application form and more detailed instructions for applying for the grant can be found on the website of the Government Equality Project.

The call for applications for discretionary government grants is part of the action plan to combat racism published by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government, which aims to promote equality, gender equality and non-discrimination in Finnish society.
